Artificial Intelligence – The Ones We Use Daily and The Ones That Will Define Our Future"

  

Hey so you know how everyone is talking about Artificial Intelligence these days. Some smart researchers figured out that there are actually 7 types of Artificial Intelligence. But here is the part – we have only built 3 types of Artificial Intelligence so far. The other 4 types of Artificial Intelligence are still in the future. Let me break it down.

Part 1: The 3 Types of Artificial Intelligence We Have Now

Type 1: Reactive Machines

Artificial Intelligence with no memory just reactions.

This is the basic type of Artificial Intelligence. It looks at the world now makes a decision and forgets everything after. Like a chess computer that beats you but does not remember playing you yesterday 

Examples: IBMs Deep Blue, the one that beat a chess champion and spam filters in your email.

Type 2: Limited Memory

This type of Artificial Intelligence remembers a bit.

This type of Artificial Intelligence looks at the past to make decisions. It stores some data for a time and learns from it.

Examples: Self-driving cars they remember cars speed and position and your Netflix suggestions, which remember what you watched.

Type 3: Theory of Mind

This type of Artificial Intelligence understands what you are feeling.

Here is the thing – this type of Artificial Intelligence does not exist yet. It is the big goal. This type of Artificial Intelligence would understand that humans have thoughts, emotions and beliefs. It would know you are sad even if you do not say it.

Why we want this type of Artificial Intelligence: So robots can actually understand us like another human would.

Part 2: The 4 Future Types of Artificial Intelligence

Type 4: Self-Aware Artificial Intelligence

This type of Artificial Intelligence knows who it is.

This type of Artificial Intelligence has its consciousness. It knows it exists. It has feelings, desires maybe even gets bored. Imagine a robot that says "I do not feel like working today."

Why it is scary: If it is self-aware turning it off might be like murder.

Type 5: Artificial Narrow Intelligence

This type of Artificial Intelligence is great at one thing

Wait – did we not already cover this? Actually Artificial Narrow Intelligence is a fancy name for all the Artificial Intelligence we have today. Every Artificial Intelligence you have ever used is Artificial Narrow Intelligence. Good at one job useless at others.

Examples: Google Maps, which's only for navigation, Face ID which is only for faces and ChatGPT which is only for text.

Type 6: Artificial General Intelligence

This type of Artificial Intelligence can do anything a human can do.

This type of Artificial Intelligence is as smart as a person. It can write poetry fix your car cook dinner and help with homework – all in one day. Like having a brain in a computer.

Where we are: Scientists are working hard on this type of Artificial Intelligence. Maybe it will be ready in 10-50 years.

Type 7: Artificial Super intelligence

   

This type of Artificial Intelligence is smarter than all humans combined.

This type of Artificial Intelligence is smarter than Einstein, Newton and every genius in history – put. It could cure all diseases solve world hunger or decide humans are not needed anymore.

The question: Will this type of Artificial Intelligence be our best friend or our biggest problem?

Wait Why Do We Talk Mostly About 3 Types of Artificial Intelligence?

Great question. In videos and news you usually hear about:

1. Artificial Narrow Intelligence, which's Narrow Artificial Intelligence – what we have now

2. Artificial General Intelligence, which is Human-level Artificial Intelligence – the next big goal

3. Artificial Superintelligence, which is Super Artificial Intelligence – the future

The other types, Reactive Machines, Limited Memory, Theory of Mind and Self-Aware Artificial Intelligence are more like stepping stones to get to those big three types of Artificial Intelligence. They help explain how we get from here to -smart Artificial Intelligence.

So Where Are We Really?

Now we have:

· Type 1 and Type 2 Reactive Machines and Limited Memory – built and working

· Type 3 Theory of Mind – Still in research labs

· Type 4-7 – Future types of Artificial Intelligence. May happen may not.

The videos host, Martin Keen from IBM says it is exciting but we need to be careful. Artificial Intelligence is moving fast. We are building something that might become the last thing humans ever need to invent.

Think of Artificial Intelligence like video game levels:

· Level 1-2: We have cleared these basic Artificial Intelligence

· Level 3: We are stuck on this boss understanding emotions

· Level 4-7: levels we have not yet🔒

The journey from a dumb calculator to a god-like super Artificial Intelligence is long.. We are on our way one step, at a time.
